Why Cruelty-Free Skincare Matters
(And Why Mindful Beauty Only Carries Cruelty-Free Products)
By Katey — Esthetician, Holistic Skin Coach & Founder of Mindful Beauty
When I started Mindful Beauty, I made a promise to myself and to you: every product that touches your skin through my hands would be one I could stand behind — not just for how it performs, but for what it stands for. Cruelty-free skincare isn't a trend for me. It's a core value I know many of you share too.
What Is Cruelty-Free Skincare?
Cruelty-free skincare means the product — and every ingredient in it — was developed without being tested on animals at any stage. This includes the final formula, individual raw materials, and any third-party testing. Truly cruelty-free brands don't sell in markets that require animal testing by law (such as mainland China for imported cosmetics), and they hold their ingredient suppliers to the same standard.
Beauty Shouldn't Come at a Cost to Others
The beauty industry has come a long way, but animal testing is still more common than most people realize. An estimated 110 to 115 million animals—including mice, rats, dogs, cats, and rabbits—suffer and are killed in experiments or for laboratory research worldwide each year — even when safe, effective alternatives already exist. Choosing cruelty-free means choosing compassion without compromising on quality.
It can also be better for the planet. Brands that commit to cruelty-free practices tend to be more intentional across the board — cleaner ingredients, sustainable packaging, and smaller environmental footprints. Compassion rarely stops at one cause.
Every brand I carry at Mindful Beauty has been personally vetted. I look for formulations that are innovative, effective, and aligned with our community values. That means no animal testing — period. Not on the finished product, not on the individual ingredients, and not by third-party suppliers.
