Hair Loss & Hair Thinning: My Root-to-End Routine for Long, Healthy Hair
My hair has been part of my identity for years, so when I started noticing thinning at my roots, and see-thought ends, it was a really emotional and vulnerable feeling that I know so many women understand.
For me, it happened after one of the most stressful seasons of my life. Grief, emotional shock, and prolonged stress can all influence the hair growth cycle, and while there is absolutely an internal side to hair health (which I'll be sharing in another blog), today I want to focus on something we can control every day: how we care for our hair.
Topical products won't fix every cause of hair loss, but they absolutely play an important role in creating a healthy environment for the scalp, protecting the hair we have, and reducing unnecessary breakage while our body heals.
One of the biggest mindset shifts I've had is thinking about hair in three parts: the roots, the mid-lengths, and the ends.
Each part has a different job, so each part deserves different care. Keep reading to explore the cruelty free, clean products I leaned into for my hair recovery and use in my long hair care routine.
Root Care: Supporting a Healthy Scalp
Healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp.
I believe our scalp deserves the same level of care we give our skin. In fact, scalp care IS skincare too. Creating small rituals that support circulation, nourish the scalp, and encourage consistency has become one of my favorite parts of my self-care routine.
Daily Scalp Massage
One of the simplest things you can do is spend a few minutes gently massaging your scalp.
Scalp massage can help support circulation to the hair follicles while also helping release tension. This helps deliver oxygen and nutrient rich blood flow to support healthy folices and encourage hair growth. Whether you use your fingertips or a massage tool, consistency matters far more than intensity. I personally like to massage my scalp dry first without any oils, and on scalp oiling day I will massage first and add oil when I am finished.
My Scalp Oiling Routine
Ritual Oil Can be used as an “everything oil” to oil cleanse, moisturize, nourish hair, and provide a gentle glide during your gua sha and facial massage rituals without feeling heavy.
Once a week I treat my scalp to an oil treatment.
My go-to combination is:
I add pumpkin seed oil to my scalp oil because it's rich in essential fatty acids, vitamin E, and zinc to help nourish the scalp , soothe dryness, and calm inflammation. It also contains naturally occurring phytosterols that may help reduce the activity of DHT—a hormone associated with certain types of hair thinning
Together they create a nourishing treatment that leaves my scalp feeling hydrated without becoming overly heavy. I massage the oils into my scalp, let them sit for a while, then shampoo as usual.
Gua Sha for the Scalp
Most people think of gua sha for the face, but I also love using the jade gua sha comb on my scalp.
Using light pressure on dry, oil-free hair, I gently glide and wiggle the stone across different sections of my scalp to help mobilize the tissue. The goal isn't to scratch the scalp, but to gently move the scalp over the skull while creating another calming ritual in my routine.
CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet
One of the most bougie hair tools I use is my CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet.
Use my -10% Code: KATEYCB
Red light therapy has been studied for its potential to support hair density and encourage healthier-looking hair over time. Like skincare, consistency is everything. It's not about one treatment—it's about showing up for your scalp week after week.
Mid-Length Care: Protect the Hair You've Already Grown
The middle of your hair often goes totally ignored. But it needs protection and care in order to prevent “see through” ends and maintain your length. The reason you notice hair growth from the root without any length is because it is breaking along the way.
Much of the damage we experience happens during brushing, detangling, friction from clothing, sleeping, and everyday styling. The healthier and better hydrated we keep the mid-lengths, the more likely we are to maintain long, strong hair.
Rahua Hydration Detangler
This is one product I never skip.
The Rahua Hydration Detangler is a multitasking leave-in formula transforms tangled hair into silky, manageable strands while providing essential UV protection. Amazonian oil, naturally rich in beta-carotene and vitamins A, C, and E, creates an effective barrier against damaging UVA rays that can weaken hair. Rahua oil penetrates to strengthen from within, while sacha inchi delivers omega-rich moisture that helps prevent breakage during styling.
This lightweight mist blocks humidity and tames frizz without weighing hair down or creating buildup. It is my favorite way to nourish and care for the mid-length of my hair.
Gentle Brushing Matters
Not rushing when you brush your hair is really important for preventing breakage to your hair. Always start from the ends and slowly work upward, allowing tangles to release instead of forcing a brush through them.
Being gentle with your hair every single day often has a bigger impact than we realize.
End Care: Preserve Your Length
Your ends are the oldest part of your hair.
They've experienced years of washing, sun exposure, ponytails, brushing, heat, and everyday wear. Giving them extra love helps maintain softness while preventing split ends from travelling farther up the hair shaft.
Evolvh Standard Hair Oil
If I could only choose one daily hair oil, the Evolvh Standard Hair Oil would be it. It's lightweight enough for my fine hair, adds softness and shine with castor oil esters, prevent frizz, and helps protect my ends without leaving them greasy.
I apply a small amount after showering and often again before bed between wash days (which are every other day for me).
Mindful Beauty Ritual Oil
While I love Evolvh Standard Hair Oil for everyday use, Ritual Oil is my favourite for deeper oiling treatments.
I'll generously apply it through my lengths and ends on the day I do my scalp oiling before wash day to give my hair an extra dose of nourishment.
Jojoba, Rosehip & Sandalwood Nut Oil
This nourishing trio inside Ritual Oil helps hydrate both the scalp and strands while protecting against dryness and breakage. Jojoba helps balance the scalp's natural oils, rosehip delivers antioxidant-rich nourishment to support softer, healthier-looking hair, and sandalwood nut oil helps improve shine, smoothness, and elasticity for hair that feels silky and resilient.
Act+Acre Hair Mask
Whenever my hair feels dry or needs extra hydration, I reach for the Act+Acre Conditioning Hair Mask. Use my -20% Code: FACESBYKATEY
This hair mask helps bring softness back to my hair while helping it feel stronger and healthier. Act+Acre Conditioning Hair Mask is formulated with Castor Oil (emollient + humectant), Glycerin (humectant) and Shea Butter (occlusive) that work together to hydrate the hair + lock in moisture, leaving it soft, moisturized and protected.
Hair Dusting
One of the best things I started doing to support long healthy hair is hair dusting.
Split ends don't only appear at the very bottom of your hair because each strand is different lengths. Hair dusting removes tiny split ends throughout the different growth stages of the hair before they continue travelling upward. It's a wonderful way to maintain smooth-looking hair while preserving as much length as possible.
Hair Care Is More Than Products
While hair growth begins from within, I never underestimate the power of a consistent topical routine. These rituals help protect the hair I've worked so hard to grow and repair. They remind me to slow down. They create moments of mindfulness in my week.
As someone who teaches skin health every day, I've learned the same lesson applies to hair:
There isn't one miracle product.
It's the small things we do consistently that make the biggest difference.
Whether it's taking five minutes for a scalp massage, applying an oil before wash day, protecting your hair while brushing, or nourishing your ends before bed, these habits add up over time.
Hair care has become one of my favourite forms of self-care because caring for ourselves—especially after seasons of stress, grief, or burnout—is part of healing too.

Final Takeaway
Hair has a beautiful way of teaching us patience.
We live in a world that wants overnight results, but our bodies don't heal on demand. Whether you're growing out damaged hair, recovering from a season of stress, or simply learning to care for yourself again, remember that healing happens in the little things we do consistently.
Every scalp massage. Every nourishing meal. Every gentle brush stroke. Every moment you choose to slow down instead of rush, is a love letter to your nervous system, and seed planted for the growth of the future.
