Calm Your Skin, Inside And Out: 3 Ingredients for Redness, Inflammation & Acne.
There's nothing more frustrating than feeling like your skin is finally finding its balance, only to be met with redness, irritation, or another round of breakouts. Maybe it's a change in seasons, a new skincare product that didn't agree with you, hormonal fluctuations, stress, or a recent treatment that's left your skin needing a little extra TLC. Sometimes our skin simply needs more support, and that's okay!
When skin becomes inflamed or reactive, I love coming back to the fundamentals: supporting the skin barrier, replenishing hydration, and creating an environment where the skin can recover and thrive. Because healthy skin isn't just about correcting what we see on the surface, it's about supporting how the skin functions as a whole.
Today I'm sharing three skincare ingredients I love for calming and supporting red, inflamed, acne-prone skin, along with three nourishing ingredients from the kitchen to give your skin a little love from within. After all, glowing skin comes from within!
1. Ceramides: Your Skin Barrier's Building Blocks
Ceramides are naturally occurring fats (lipids) that help hold your skin cells together, keeping moisture in and environmental irritants out. Think of them as the mortar between the bricks of your skin barrier.
And here's something I always remind my acne clients: oily skin can still have a compromised barrier! Producing oil doesn't necessarily mean your skin is protected or keeping hydration in.
Why your skin loves ceramides:
Replenish essential barrier lipids.
Reduce moisture loss and dehydration.
Support skin barrier recovery.
Improve comfort in dry, sensitive skin.
Help maintain a stronger, more resilient complexion.
2. Vitamin B5: The Hydration & Recovery Helper
Vitamin B5, commonly found in skincare as panthenol, is a humectant that helps attract and retain moisture. But its benefits go beyond hydration! It also supports the skin's natural recovery process, making it especially helpful when your skin feels tight, dry, irritated, or overworked.
For acne-prone skin, redness, or sensitivity this is particularly important. We want a routine your skin can tolerate consistently, not a cycle of treating, irritating, and trying to repair it again.
Why your skin loves vitamin B5:
Attracts and retains hydration.
Helps reduce moisture loss.
Supports skin barrier repair.
Soothes dryness and irritation.
Encourages a softer, smoother complexion.
Where to Find Ceramides + Vitamin B5
VO Beauty Gentle Skin Hydration Milk Cleanser: A creamy, gentle cleanser designed to remove impurities without stripping the skin. With ceramides and other skin-conditioning ingredients, it makes a beautiful first step for sensitive or reactive complexions.
VO Beauty Barrier Cream: A comforting moisturizer combining ceramides and panthenol to replenish moisture and support barrier recovery. It also features beta-glucan, squalane, and antioxidant-rich blueberry extract for additional skin-conditioning benefits.
Together, they create a simple foundation for hydrated, comfortable, more resilient skin.

3. Trioxolane: Oxygen-Focused Care for Stressed Skin
Here's an ingredient you may not have heard of before!
Trioxolane (Ozonized Ethyl Oleate) is a patented oxygen-based ingredient featured in Osmosis Rescue Epidermal Repair Serum. It's designed to support stressed, reactive skin and improve the appearance of redness and irritation without relying on aggressive exfoliation.
Why your skin may love Rescue Epidermal Repair Serum:
Helps calm visible redness and irritation.
Targets the appearance of inflamed blemishes.
Repairs damage and reduces inflammation
Helps improve uneven tone and post-blemish marks.
Provides antioxidant support against environmental stressors
Promotes healthier, more resilient skin.
Where to find it: Osmosis Rescue Epidermal Repair Serum
Rescue combines Trioxolane with schisandra berry, a botanical containing antioxidant compounds that help protect against oxidative stress. This is one of my favourite serums to incorporate into routines for skin that looks stressed, inflamed, or reactive.
Your Simple 3-Step Routine for Calmer Skin
You don't need ten products to begin supporting your skin barrier!
Moisturize: VO Beauty Barrier Cream.
Finish with a mineral zinc broad-spectrum SPF 30 every morning. Once your skin feels more comfortable and resilient, you can thoughtfully introduce additional targeted treatments depending on your concerns.
A Little Nourishment From Within: Grape + Aloe Slushy
Of course, I couldn't talk about calming skin without bringing a little nourishment into the conversation! Hydration and a variety of colourful, antioxidant-rich foods help support overall health, including the normal functions of your skin.
Grape + Aloe Slushy
Ingredients:
1½ cups frozen purple grapes (I love concord grapes)
2"-4" fresh aloe leaf gel
splash of coconut water to blend
A squeeze of fresh lime or garnish with mint, optional
Blend until smooth, enjoy immediately.
Why I love it:
Purple grapes: Provide polyphenol antioxidants, including anthocyanins. Hydrating and energizing food that is said to support liver and kidneys.
Aloe vera: Deeply hydrating, supports gut health, holistically known as “nature’s antibiotic”
Coconut water: Provides hydration and electrolytes, including potassium.
The Takeaway
Our skin isn't static. It changes with the seasons, our environment, our stress levels, and everything happening in between. And even when we've found a routine that works beautifully, there may be times when our skin needs a little extra love.
The goal isn't to have skin that never reacts, but to build a strong, resilient foundation that helps it navigate those changes and recover. With supportive skincare, proper nourishment, and a little patience, we can give our skin what it needs, both inside and out.
Remember, healthy skin isn't about perfection. It's about resilience.
