Thyme For Clear Glowing Skin

Thyme is a powerful immune supportive and aromatic healing herb that contains antiseptic, antiviral, and antibacterial properties. Increasing my daily intake of fresh and dried herbs was a key component of my skin clearing journey and thyme is one of my favorites due to its ability to help clear mucus and kill acne causing strep bacteria lingering inside the body.

Thyme has some of the highest antioxidant levels among herbs, containing bioflavonoids such as lutein, zeaxanthin, and naringenin. We need these antioxidants to fight the aging (oxidation) process.

Thyme contains vitamins A, B, C + E, and minerals like calcium, selenium, iron and manganese. Any nutrient we consume has a dependency on many minerals in order to both absorb and work effectively for us. We need minerals to assimilate, function and properly and we need to provide them in balance so that they can be of greatest benefit to us.

Thyme can be a purifying herb for the digestive tract and has been found to aid in the digestion of rich or fatty foods. It has been used to help calm and soothe the nervous system and is essential for urinary tract health and may help prevent infections and keep healthy bacteria in balance. Thyme Benefits For Skin & Hair

Topically, thyme offers antifungal and antiseptic benefits and helps inhibit surface bacteria. It also provides soothing relief for sensitized, dry, red, itchy or dehydrated skin.

Thyme oil has been used to help stop hair loss by improving blood flow to the scalp and feeding the roots of the hair.

Drinking thyme tea and thyme water daily can help promote clear, radiant skin. Simply add fresh thyme sprigs to boiled water to steep tea for 15 minutes (I also add lots of honey), or to room temperature water overnight. The fastest way to get to where you want to be is through slow consistent changes. Simply toss some thyme in your favorite soups, salads, veggies, and almost any meal to enjoy the healing benefits.

I love making thyme + tangerine peel water regularly as a glowing skin living water elixir. Tangerine peels can be added to water and/or tea to provide additional anti-bacterial and medicinal benefits and the combination of thyme + tangerine is so uplifting and energizing.

Skin Rituals: Thyme + Tangerine Water / Vitamin C Regenerative Balm / Bian Gua Sha

Ingredients:

1 bunch of fresh thyme
Fresh tangerine peel (I usually peel the length of 1 tangerine and cut into 2 smaller pieces)
16-32 oz filtered water

Directions:

Fill a jar or pitcher with room temperature water and add thyme sprigs and well washed tangerine peel. Allow to soak on the kitchen counter for at least 3 hours or overnight. In the morning remove/strain thyme sprigs and water throughout the day for the hydration and healing benefits.
